Ankara-based Turkish NGO which is established by Halime Güner in 1996 to fight and raise awareness for the Women's Human Rights, also organises the Flying Broom, Women's Film Festival in Ankara since 1997.
Flying Broom Women Films Festival team is headed by Ayşegül Oğuz and Didem Baltacı,other members of the Festival are Sibel Astarcıoğlu, Uğur and Ürün Güner. Festival gives Bilge Olgaç Honorary Award, Lifelong Achievement Award and it is the only Women Film Festival in the world to give FIPRESCI award. It is given for the third time this year.
2005
The 2005 festival was held from 5 to 12 May 2005. Opening Night Ceremony presenters were Müjde Ar and Mahir Günşiray in which Sevda Ferdağ won the Life Long Achievement Award, and she received her award at the opening ceremony by Müjde Ar, her co-star in Ağır Roman. Former Life Long Achievement Award winner are Sezer Sezin (2003) and Suzan Avci (2004). Bilge Olgaç Honourary Award was given to Jeyan Ayral Tözüm (film and stage actress) and Sevin Okyay ( film critic, journalist, TV presenter, author and translator of Harry Potter to Turkish).The Theme of this year festival was love. Russians films were shown in a country, a cinema section. Greta Garbo was remembered with a special section in her centennial birthday, and Fipresci nominee films section had very popular films like Sally Potter's Yes, Mania Akbari's 20 Fingers, Keren Yedeya's Or,Lucile Hadzihalilovich's Innocence, Agnès Jaoui's Look at Me Fipresci Jury members Alin Taşçıyan (Turkey), Ivan Carl (Serbia and Montenegro) and Julia Komikovich (the Russian Federation) gave the Fipresci prize to one of the weakest films of the section To Take a Wife by Ronit and Schlomi Elkabitz of Israel.
