Population (2001) is 1,344. It is one of four politically independent villages in the greater Vancouver area, the others being its neighbour Belcarra, Bowen Island and Lions Bay. A 1978 plan for the village to have 15,000 residents by 1988 was vocally opposed by its residents, and they have instead insisted on preserving what they call their "semi-rural" goal. Anmore is home to the Buntzen Lake Regional Park which has a popular swimming beach. Buntzen Lake also has a hydro-electric power generation station, and a ferry located at the bottom of the service road which provides service to Buntzen Bay.
