About
Annapolis High School is located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland on Riva Rd, near the city of Annapolis. The panther is the school's mascot. It's the second oldest high school in the county, having existed since 1898, after Arundel High School (1854). It is also one of the older public secondary schools in the nation. The student body is 1,655. It is Black (44.2%), White (43.1%), Hispanic (9.9%), and Asian (2.5%), as well as 4 Native American students. It had a mercury spill on March 16, 2006, however the substance that was spilled is believed to just be an alcoholic beverage, of some sort. It is a host school of the International Baccalaureate program. The other two IB schools in the county are Meade High School, and Old Mill High School. AHS feeder middle schools are Bates Middle School, and Annapolis Middle School, however because of it's magnet program, students are also bused in from other parts of the county. The school is a part of Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
