Anne Bogart

Anne Bogart (born in 1951) is an American director of theatre. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College in 1974, followed by a Master of Arts degree from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1977. She co-founded the Saratoga International Theatre Institute with Tadashi Suzuki in 1992, with an emphasis on international cultural exchange and collaboration. Before founding the SITI Company, she was the president of the Theatre Communications Group. She is an Associate Professor at Columbia University where she heads the Graduate Directing Program. Also, Bogart currently serves as Artistic Director of the SITI Company.
She has won two Obie awards for Best Direction. In 1988 she won for No Plays No Poetry But Philosophical Reflections Practical Instructions Provocative Opinions and Pointers From a Noted Critic and Playwright and in 1990, she won for The Baltimore Waltz. In 1984, she won the Bessie award for Choreographer/Creator for her work with South Pacific.
Bogart helped to develop the theatrical technique of Viewpoints, which she incorporates in much of her work.
