Anšan fell under Achaemenid rule in the 7th century BC, captured by Teispes (675–640) who called himself "King of the City of Anšan". For another century, Anšan was a minor kingdom in the declining Elamite Empire, until the Achaemenids in the 6th century BC from Anšan embarked on a period of conquest , which became nucleus of the Persian empire.
Not to be confused is modern Anzan (), some 50 km east of modern Ahar, East Azarbaijan, north-western Iran.
