Anthology drama
Encyclopedia : A : AN : ANT : Anthology drama
Anthology drama is a popular form of early television programming that brought dramatic theater to television; influenced by stage plays, anthologies offered new teleplays, casts, directors, writers, and sets from week to week.
Examples are Fireside Theater and Kraft Television Theater. The form was absent from early commercial television programming because advertisers could not sell their particular products when the viewers' minds had been so emotionally or dramatically engaged; and it is still rarely found in commercial television.
