Anthony Lane

Anthony Lane (born 1962) has been a film reviewer on The New Yorker magazine since 1993. He is generally considered very witty. Lane is married to the journalist and author Allison Pearson; like Lane, she is British. In order to balance his career at the New Yorker with his family life, Lane divides his time between London and New York.
Education and early career
Lane graduated with a degree in English from Trinity College, Cambridge, where he also did graduate work on the poet TS Eliot. After graduating, he worked as a freelance writer and as a book reviewer on The Independent, where he was appointed deputy literary editor in 1989. In 1991, Lane was appointed film critic for the Independent on Sunday, thus adding regular film criticism to his repertoire.At the New Yorker
In 1993, Lane was asked by The New Yorker's then editor, Tina Brown, to join that publication as a film critic. Lane now shares the role with The New Yorker's other film critic, David Denby. Generally, Lane's film reviews appear in the magazine every two weeks; he has also written longer articles on film subjects, such as Alfred Hitchcock and Buster Keaton, as well as on literature and other non-film subjects. Lane's reviews in the "Current Cinema" section of the New Yorker appear towards the back of the magazine.He has published a collection of reviews and other writings in an anthology, [Nobody's Perfect] (2002), the title of which is a reference to the film Some Like it Hot.
Professional Recognition
Anthony Lane was awarded the 2001 National Magazine Award in for Reviews & Criticism, for three of his articles:- The Maria Problem (February 14)
