Anti-Waste League
Encyclopedia : A : AN : ANT : Anti-Waste League
The Anti-Waste League was a political party in the United Kingdom, founded in 1921 by Lord Rothermere. The party campaigned against what they saw as excessive government spending. In reaction, the Conservatives launched a committee, led by Eric Geddes, with the aim of cutting spending, and eventually acted on many of its recommendations.
The party stood in a number of by-elections, taking an increasingly anti-communist line, but were disbanded in 1922 in the face of a group of Conservatives moving to the right and sponsoring independent candidates.
