Apeiron (video game)

Apeiron was a very popular Mac computer game developed and released as shareware by Ambrosia Software. It was first released on February 10, 1995. More recently, it has been updated to work on Mac OS X.
Like other games by Ambrosia, such as Maelstrom, Apeiron is modern update of a classic arcade game, in this case Centipede. While being a simple game, it features sharp graphics and well-tuned, smooth gameplay.
Gameplay
The player controls a crystal shard that can be moved around the bottom of the screen. The crystal can fire energy shots upwards. The remainder of the screen contains a random spread of mushroom obstacles.
The enemy of the player is the Pentipede, a long creature which snakes its way from the top to the bottom of the screen. If it makes it to the bottom, the player is killed. Shooting the Pentipede splits it in half and speeds it up, so the player must shoot each segment in order to complete the level. Other enemies and power-ups occasionally appear to help or hinder the player.
