Apobaterion

Encyclopedia : A : AP : APO : Apobaterion

An apobaterion, in antiquity, was a farewell speech or poem occasioned by a person's departure out of his own country, or some other place where he had been kindly received and entertained. Such is that of Aeneas to Helenus and Andromache, Aeneid, Book III.

The apobaterion stands opposed to the epibaterion.
