The Appanoose Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) is the organization that sets and implements Appanoose County, Iowa's economic development program. AEDC received incorporated status as a private, non-profit 501(c)(6) corporation on April 3, 1986. Since this time, economic development work has largely been managed by a handful of volunteer community leaders. These individuals were responsible for helping establish the Centerville Industrial Park and for helping attract industries such as Rubbermaid, Barker Company and Wells Manufacturing.
The board in late 2003 decided to hire a full-time, countywide executive director, the first in AEDC's history. The purpose was to have a dedicated professional attending to the day-to-day needs of local business and industry. AEDC remains governed by a volunteer board of directors with written by-laws. Board directors are elected by AEDC membership or appointed by the board in the case of an unexpected departure.
The mission of the Appanoose Economic Development Corporation is to facilitate the retention, expansion, attraction and creation of businesses and jobs and collaboratively work to enhance the overall business climate of the county.
