Dr. Archie Morris is a fictional character portrayed by Scott Grimes on the television show ER. His character debuted in 2003 and was notable for providing comic relief as an inept doctor who avoided work whenever possible. He was frequently bailed out by another resident named Coop. During the 2003 season, he was caught smoking confiscated marijuana by Dr. Romano, but avoided punishment when Romano was killed by a falling helicopter.
Fulfilling the adage that those who can't do, teach, is made chief resident at the beginning of 2005, thus allowing his character to further antagonize other characters. He gets the position through a combination of little competition, an eleventh hour push of publications, and an elaborate presentation for the interview. He mentions wanting the job to prove that he is capable to his "old man." His leadership style is primarily delegation and micro-management, though he imagines that he is beloved by his fellow residents and the medical students. He also has four nipples and as a teenager was made fun of because this. In season 12, it's revealed that Morris donated sperm earlier in his life when four kids who met on the internet visit him and claim that he's their father. Later on season 12, Morris was hired by a pharmacy laboratory and on 21 Guns Season Finale, he was preparing to leave the hospital until the shooting happened and he had to take care of deskclerk Jerry, who was shot in the shooting.
On season 13, when everybody are helping the victims of the shooting, he goes to Chief of Staff Kerry Weaver and ask her if he can get the attending physician job position (left open by Dr. Clemente departure and death), explaining to her that he wants to stay with the team in this difficult moment. Weaver admits that she doesn`t know how, but Morris became a good doctor, giving him the job.
