The Armadale Line is a suburban railway line in Perth, Australia. It runs through Perth's south-eastern suburbs and connects Perth and Armadale.

The Thornlie Line is a spur line connecting with the Armadale Line at Kenwick. It was built in 2004-2005 and opened on 7 August 2005. Trains to Thornlie run on the Armadale Line between Perth and Beckenham stations.

History

The Armadale line was opened on 2 May 1889. The original stations were Perth, Welshpool, Cannington, Kelmscott and Armadale.PTA History at a glance http://www.pta.wa.gov.au/scripts/viewoverview_contact.asp?NID=1815

In September 1991 the line commenced electrified operation.

Between 1992 and August 8 2005, trains on the Armadale line continued through Perth on the Joondalup line. In 2004 new railcars were introduced, which are exclusive to the Joondalup line. Consequently , from 2005 Armadale line trains no longer run through Perth to other lines.

Train Stations

During peak hour times on weekdays, some train stations are non-stopped for faster commutes. The Armadale line also runs express trains during the weekdays, and even on weekends. This is the only line where expresses are run in non-peak hour times.

Red denotes city stations.
Yellow denotes Armadale line stations.
Black denotes terminuses.

R - amended to routes which stop at Belmont Park.

Old Stopping Patterns

D - all stops to Armadale, except Beckenham, Seaforth, Challis, and Sherwood. (this route was replaced by pattern E on 8 August 2005, this route excluded Thornlie).
