Armenian Diaspora

The Armenian diaspora is a term used to describe the communities of Armenians living outside of Armenia.
Of the total Armenian population living worldwide (2004 est. about 8,000,000) only about 3,000,000 live in Armenia (and about 120,000 in Nagorno-Karabakh). There are large Armenian communities in Canada: Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Ontario; the United States: Watertown, Massachusetts, Richmond Heights, Ohio, Fresno, California, Glendale, California; Russia: Sochi, Moscow, Saint Petersburg; France: Marseille, Val-de-Marne, Lyon, Nice; Bulgaria: Plovdiv, Varna, Sofia, Burgas; the Middle East: Anjar, Beirut, Aleppo, Tehran, Jolfa, Jerusalem; Turkey: Istanbul; Australia: Melbourne, Sydney; South America: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Caracas.
The presentation of the Armenian Genocide during the government of the Young Turks from 1915 to 1917 in the Ottoman Empire which is the reason why so many Armenians live outside of their homeland, is a premier trait of most Armenians abroad.
