Arna is a borough and suburb of Bergen, Norway. Around 16,000 inhabitants live in this rural suburb. As it is situated behind mount Ulriken, Arna is geographically close to downtown Bergen, but it takes some time to drive there by road as there is no road tunnel as yet. However, a train journey from Arna station to Bergen only takes eight minutes.

History

Arna used to constitute a separate municipality. Its name was changed from Haus in 1964.

Haus formannskapsdistrikt was created in 1837. The municipality was split on January 1, 1870 into Haus and Bruvik municipalities, at which point Haus had a population of 4,229.

On January 1, 1964 a part of Haus located on Osterøy was moved to the municipality of Osterøy. At the same time Haus changed its name to Arna.

On January 1, 1972 the city Bergen was expanded by merging the municipalities Arna, Bergen, Fana, Laksevåg and Åsane to one. By the time of the merger Arna had a population of 11 766.
