Encyclopedia : A : AR : ARN : Arnamagnæan Codex
The Arnamagnæan codex (The Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection) (Danish: Den Arnamagnæanske Håndskriftsamling Icelandic Handritasafn Árna Magnússonar) is the collection of manuscripts assembled by Árni Magnússon (1663-1730).
He was an Icelander who was a professor at the University of Copenhagen, which was the only university for Denmark, Norway and Iceland at that time. He was a passionate scholar of Icelandic and Scandinavian history and created the by far largest collection of Icelandic MSs.
Today the Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection is the property of the Copenhagen University Library with the Arnamagnæan commission being the administrating body and the Arnamagnæan Collection the studies institute who also houses the collection.
