Arsenalna (Ukrainian: Арсенальна, Russian: ) is a station on Kiev Metro's Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska Line. The station was opened along with the first stage and is currentely a world record holder of being the deepest station in the world (102 metres). This attributed to Kiev's geography where the high bank of the Dnieper River rises above the rest of the city. The station (architects H.Hranatkin, S.Krushynsky, N.Shchukina) appears as a pylon trivault but in actual fact there is no central hall and is thus similar in layout to many stations on the London Underground. Although the platforms are straight and the Pylons do appear to have portals, but these are cosmetic and are covered up with pink marble and bronze grills with mettalic artwork on Soviet themes. Few reasons attribute to this, as the station was planned to be a proper pylon design. The most important one being due to the tough soils of the area and problems with hydroisolation forced the metroworkers to conserve on plans. Similar problems happened on the first stage in Moscow however later the stations Lubyanka and Chistiye Prudy were completed. In Kiev, however the station never was, this is because it was originally built as an interim on a long track before the station crossed the Dnieper and continued into the left bank residential districts. Over the years its passengers have been workers of the Kiev Arsenal factory (for which the station is named) and a few other residents. As a result there is no need for a costly reconstruction presentely as the station has a very low passenger traffic.
The station, apart from the spoken portals and the plastered ceiling as well as the white ceramic tiled walls is fully done in white marble. At the main wall of the lobby was a large sculptural artwork dedicated to the revolutionary events that took place in the Arsenal factory in 1918 however this was unfortunately removed in the early 1990s.
The station's large surface vestibule is situated on the square leading onto the January uprising street. The escalator ride is one of the longest in the world, a total of 5 minutes. Behind the station is a service bay that is used for nighttime stands and minor repairs to the railcar park.
