Art-grind

Art-grind is a term applied to some bands of the deathgrind genre, though it is not widely recognized as a genre itself. Art-grind bands often rely on heavy symbolism in their lyrics and unusual songwriting, including atypical time signatures and creative riffing and drumming.

Art-grind often widens the subject-base of politics, socio-political topics, humanity, gore, etc. of traditional deathgrind to many more topics, such as relationships and personal issues, though lyrics are often kept cryptic, making their subject matter hard to decipher.

Examples of bands labelled as art-grind include Pig Destroyer and Discordance Axis.
