Artapanus

Encyclopedia : A : AR : ART : Artapanus


Artapanus of Alexandria is a historian, of Jewish origin, from the 2nd century B.C. He wrote about the history of the Jews but his books didn't survive.

His works have been preserved in the books of two later historians:

In his account of Moses, he associates him in certain aspectes to Hermes (Thoth, ie, Egyptian version).
