Artificial whitewater

An Artificial whitewater course (AWWC) is a training site for whitewater kayaking, whitewater Racing, whitewater rafting, playboating and slalom canoeing with artificially generated currents. They work either by natural river flow, pumping water or tidal action.
See the Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre (Athens), the Penrith Whitewater Stadium and the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
In the United Kingdom, the main AWWCs are located in the Nottingham, Northampton and Teesside. Others are planned for other locations.
