asap is The
Associated Press news
portal targeted at 18–34 year olds. It was launched in September 2005 with a stated intention of bringing high quality news content to a seemingly underserved readership segment and helping the AP's members attract that audience. It employs two dozen reporters, editors, photographers and designers at AP headquarters in New York and in the field who are charged with creating a daily multimedia product that reflects the newsgathering depth and breadth of the AP, the world's largest newsgathering organization. The service includes video, audio, Flash presentations and news reports and features, both domestic and international, and relies heavily on AP reporters around the planet to pump up its content. It also features a significant amount of alternative storytelling and experience-based journalism. asap's editor, Ted Anthony, is a former national writer and China news editor for the AP who worked extensively in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The asap hosted site was designed by New York-based marketing and design agency Last Exit.
