Ascension is a jazz album by John Coltrane. It is often considered to be a watershed album, with the albums before it being more conventional in structure and the albums after it being looser, free jazz inspired works. The album is a forty minute long group improvisation. The Ascension sessions consisted of two takes, both of which are available on the CD reissue.

Edition I was the track originally released, but was replaced by Edition II on later pressings due to Coltrane changing his mind. Both are available on the CD reissue.
