Encyclopedia : A : AT : ATC : Atchison and Nebraska Railroad
The Atchison and Nebraska Railroad was initially chartered as the Atchison and Nebraska City Railroad but "City" was dropped from the name when it was formally organized. Work began on the railroad in Atchison, KS the summer of 1869 and it was completed to the state line, three miles North of White Cloud, KS, in 1871. On November 3, 1871, the railroad was merged into the Atchison, Lincoln and Columbus Railroad, which completed building the railroad North into Lincoln, NE by the fall of 1872.
