Athen Grey is an internationally acclaimed professional freelance photographer who concentrates on male models in the style of classical Greek sculpture. Consequently some of his more famous images are of male and female nudes in what can be called glamour photography.
Grey was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to a middle-class family who owned an architectural firm.
In 1991 he earned a BFA degree, with an emphasis on photography, art and creative writing from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. Soon after graduation Grey returned to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to join the corporate world, working for a number of Fortune 500 companies, where he photographed industrial products (such as transformers, spark plugs, tires, farm equipment, construction equipment, and gas/oil products) until 2004.
Grey began photographing models in 2003, and exploded into the fashion, athletic and muscle markets within a year. His first coffee table book, Male Perfection: Ripped, Shredded, and Muscular was published in November 2003, and he is slated to release three more books of photography in 2005.
