Atheocracy
Encyclopedia : A : AT : ATH : Atheocracy
An atheocracy is a hypothetical form of government that operates in accordance with atheistic or agnostic beliefs. A theocracy is a state governed in accordance with religious law.
The closest thing to an atheocracy in history might be the Marxist regimes. In 1967 Enver Hoxha declared Albania to be the first and only atheist state. He was partually inspired by the dismantling of religion in the People's Republic of China during the Cultural Revolution. The former Soviet Union also to some degree, and at certain times, enforced atheism. Forced secularism could also be viewed as a form of atheocracy.
