Australian herring
Encyclopedia : A : AU : AUS : Australian herring
Australian herring (Arripis georgianus) is one of four species within the Arripis genus. It closely resembles its cousin the Australian salmon (A. trutta) although grows to a smaller size. Like the other members of its genus, it is found in cooler waters around the southern coast of Australia and possibly New Zealand. It has no relation to the herring family(Clupeidae). In Victoria and South Australia, it is commonly called the "Tommy Ruff".
