Autochthonous language

An autochthonous language is an indigenous language, one resident for a considerable length of time in a territory or region, spoken by an autochthonous group. It is a term particularly used in Europe to describe minority languages and regional languages.

The term "autochthonous" is a synonym of "local" or "indigenous" [link]. For example, a wine grape variety indigenous to an area is called an "autochthonous variety", such as the variety Palomino negro from Jerez in Spain.
