Avonside Engine Company

The Avonside Engine Company was a locomotive manufacturer in Bristol, England.

It was originally opened by Henry Stothart in 1837 as Henry Stothert and Company. When Edward Slaughter joined in 1841, it became Stothert , Slaughter and Company.

By 1844 the works were named "Avonside Ironworks" and in 1851 the company acquired a ship building yard, which Henry Stothard took charge of. In 1856 a Mr.Gruning joined Edward Slaughter at the locomotive works, which became Slaughter, Gruning and Company.

The company became Avonside Engine Company in 1866.

The company closed in 1934 and the goodwill and designs of the company were bought be the Hunslet Engine Company
