} The Aviation Special Interest Group (AVSIG) is the oldest continuously-operated commercial online discussion forum, founded by [The Aviation Safety Institute] in 1981 on CompuServe.

The non-profit forum facilitates dialogue among general aviation, airline, and military pilots as well as maintenance personnel, air traffic controllers, and government regulators to promote aviation safety worldwide.

AVSIG left the CompuServe network in May, 2004 to become a stand-alone web forum.
