Ayane is a character from the Dead or Alive video game series. She has been a member of the series from the beginning, starting as an unplayable training dummy in the Sega Saturn port of the original Dead or Alive. According to series canon, she won the third tournament by defeating Omega.
History
Dead or Alive through Dead or Alive 2
Ayane is the half-sister of Kasumi and Hayate. During the events of Dead or Alive 2, she is ordered by Genra to hunt down and kill Kasumi who had been considered a runaway shinobi because of her departure from her village. However, Ayane fails her task and is defeated by Kasumi in the final rounds of the tournament. Ayane encounters Hayate as well in the DOA2 tournament, but because he was suffering from temporary memory loss due to the Epsilon Project, he did not remember her and they were forced to fight.Also during the DOA2 Tournament, Ayane is confronted by Helena, who accuses her of killing Helena's opera singing mother. The accusation is false, as it's later revealed in Dead or Alive 4 that it was Christie who killed Helena's mother. Ayane does not deny the accusation outright, choosing instead to taunt Helena before they battle.
Dead or Alive 3
Ayane enters Dead or Alive 3 in order to kill Genra, who has been made into a puppet of DOATEC. She sees this as her responsibility and a way to return the favor of Genra having taken her under his wing.Ayane succeeds in her mission. As a reminder of her foster father, she takes Genra's ritual mask and energy sword.

Ayane was invited to Zack Island for the fourth Dead or Alive Tournament. It turns out the tournament was a hoax and Ayane, along with the other girls, was stuck on the tropical island for two weeks.Dead or Alive 4
As ordered by her clan, Ayane joins forces with her half-brother, Hayate and Ryu Hayabusa to destroy DOATEC for all the suffering the company has caused the ninja clans. She is successful in this mission by casting a powerful Ninpo spell in the middle of the DOATEC complex with Hayate defending her, destroying the foundations of the buildings before the ninjas make their escape.Other appearances
Ayane has a recurring appearance in Ninja Gaiden. In Ninja Gaiden, Ayane is a young ninja in training at the age of 14 who first appears to inform Murai and incidentally Ryu that the Hayabusa Village is under heavy attack. Throughout the game, Ayane provides tips and assistance to Ryu while always keeping an eye on his progress. In the expansion Ninja Gaiden Black, if the player chooses the Ninja Dog Easy mode, Ayane provides Ryu with assistance. However, the main protagonist Ryu Hayabusa dies in that timeline, making the Dead or Alive canon (where Ayane is 16 and Ryu is alive) dubious.The upcoming Xbox 360 title will also feature Ayane, acting as a prequel to the first DOA and detailing the history between Kasumi and herself as they grew up within their clan.
Personality
Ayane is a psychological mess. She was born after Raidou raped her mother (who is also the mother of Kasumi and Hayate). Though Ayane was allowed to stay in the ninja clan, she was always looked down upon as a "poisoned child". Ever since they were children, Ayane looked on Hayate with admiration. She looks up to him as a way of increasing her self-esteem and lifting her sadness.In her own time, Ayane is quiet and reserved, and tries to forget her experiences as a child; being taunted and expelled from normal life because of her heritage. She also harbors a deep hatred for Kasumi due to the fact that she is Ayane's half-sister and yet she received much better treatment. Ayane honed her skills to unbelievable heights in an attempt to make others see her to be more than a "cursed child". Now with the departure of Genra, Ayane is the strongest ninja of the Hajinmon.
Gameplay
Ayane is a medium-damage ratio character that knows many airborne and "tiger knee" moves; her primary advantages are speed and agility, which allow her to make a strong mix-up game. She has many launchers (such as Renjin-Roso and Jinrai-Roso), and a good reportaire of juggling attacks (Renjin-Koeiso or Gemmu). This makes up for her relative lack of reach and brute strength, as she cannot deal out a sufficient amount of damage with single blows. Ayane's movelist is largely medium to short-range in effectiveness, where she function as a pressure character with such moves as Genmu-So that have a fast execution and recovery time. However, her back facing attacks can prove disastrous if unmastered, resulting in complete vulnerability and lack of recovery time. On the other hand Ayane has been since her introduction far and away one of the fastest characters in the game.Trivia
