The
Ayukai clan were direct descendants of Fujiwara Yasuchika. The Ayukai settled at Yokogoshi in
Mutsu, later adopting the surname of "Ayukai". However, after the war between the
Date clan and the
Mogami clan during the year of
1587, the Ayukai ultimately lost the Ayukai Castle. Good relations with the Date were formed however, with a valiant retainer by the name of Ayukai Moritsugu being formed under
Date Masamune. The Ayukai clan remained as retainers under the Date following the
Meiji Restoration.
