Ayumi is a female Japanese given name. The kanji of Ayumi (歩) comes from the chinese word (步); they're similar but not the same. Ayumi is most commonly written as:
- あゆみ — in hiragana, the most common way.
- 歩 — literally means "step" or "walk", but for names is understood as "walker".
- 歩美 — "beautiful walker"
- あゆ美 — mixture of hiragana and kanji; this is rarely used.
It does also exist as a surname (漢人, 阿弓)
