The Azerbaijan Air Force (AzAF, Azeri: Azərbaycan hərbi hava qüvvələri) has about 7,900 personnel and troops. The AzAF currentely has 172 aircraft and 60 helicopters on 16 bases, with additional 50 other airports.
Aircraft
Combat aircraft of the AzAF include (including the additions in 2002):- Su-17 attack fighter - 4
- Su-24 fighter bomber - 21
- SU-25 ground attack aricraft - 12
- MiG-21 fighter - 18
- MiG-25 interceptor - 33
- MiG-25-RECCE - 5
- MiG-25PD interceptor - 11
- Tu-16 Badger heavy bombers - 10
- MiG-25RB aircraft - 14
Helicopter force
A subdepartement of the Azerbaijani Air Force (AzAF) is the helicopter force which is provided by:
- Mi-24 attack gunships - 40
- Mi-8 Assault/transport helicopter (can also be used for attack) - 13
- Mi-2 Transport helicopter (can also be used for transport) - 7
Transport fleet
Transport fleet is a subdepartement of the AzAF and consists of: A total of 114 warplanes, 50 helicopters, 14 high-altitude recoinassances planes, 38 training planes and helicopters and 6 transportplanes.Upgrade and addition
In 2002, the Air Defense Forces received a major upgrade and addition, and plans to further expansion in 2007. The addition consisting of:- MiG-25 Foxbat fighters - 19
- Su-25 Frogfoot Ground attack planes - 6
- Su-24 Fencer fighter bombers - 9
- Tu-16 Badger heavy bombers - 10
- Mi-24 Hind attack helicopters - 25
