Béla Guttman

Béla Guttman (Budapest, March 13, 1900 – August 28, 1981) was a Hungarian football manager who led many successful teams.
He helped popularise the 4-2-4 formation (which had been pioneered by fellow countrymen Márton Bukovi and Gusztáv Sebes) around the world after the 1958 FIFA World Cup triumph after managing the Brazilian national team.
He was later famous for managing the Portuguese club side SL Benfica with whom he won the European Cup (now the Champions League), while uncovering the talents of the famous Eusébio.
Guttman started playing professional football at MTK in Budapest, Hungary where he won the national league championships in the 1920/21 and 1921/22 seasons. He moved to Hakoah in Vienna, Austria in 1922, and won the league in the 1924/25 season. After a tour in the United States in 1926, Guttman decided to play there, only returning to Austria in 1933 to start coaching.
Guttman moved around different countries coaching many different clubs. He moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil for the 1957/58 season.
Guttman died in 1981 aged 81.
