[] at NFL.com B.J. Sander (born July 29, 1980) is a punter for the Green Bay Packers. Despite starting just one year at The Ohio State University, he won the Ray Guy Award for the best punter in the nation. He was selected in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Packers, much to the chagrin of their fans. The anger was accelerated when Sander had a poor preseason, and did not punt at all his rookie season, becoming the butt of many jokes by the fans. The following year, he put up nice numbers in NFL Europe, and even punted respectably for the first half of the regular season. However, once the cold weather started in Green Bay, Sander Struggled, and ended up near the bottom of the punter rankings.
For the 2006-2007 NFL Season, Sander has some fierce competition from Jon Ryan, a punter that Green Bay signed from the CFL. Ryan averaged over 50 yards/punt last year, even while playing for a poor offense that forced him to punt many times. Also, many of Ryan's punts happened in cold weather, giving him a likely advantage over Sander, who struggled during cold weather situations.
Rumor has it that B.J. Sander may be switching to the Kansas City Chiefs in the very near future (2006-2007 season). He has been seen around Kansas City with fellow Chiefs players and has recently purchased a home just north of Kansas City.
