BBC 1Xtra is a UK radio station from the BBC specialising in urban music. Launched at 1800 on August 16 2002, it was originally codenamed Network X and is the sister station to BBC Radio 1. Typical music includes hip hop, garage, drum and bass, basement, soca, reggae, gospel music and R&B, and the station has been commended for the range of specialist shows it broadcasts. It is available on digital radio (DAB), digital satellite television, digital terrestrial television (Freeview), and the Internet. It has its own news team; the hourly news reports are called TX.
