BBC Radio Humberside is a BBC Local Radio service covering the area of the former English county of Humberside, which was returned to North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire on April 1 1996. Opened on 25th February 1971, it broadcasts from its studios in Hull and Grimsby on 95.9 FM (High Hunsley), 1485 (Paull, east Hull) AM, DAB and the internet using Real Player.

Transmitters

The transmitter, between Beverley and South Cave 500 ft up on the Yorkshire Wolds is quite powerful over the relatively flat surrounding area being heard clearly in most of South Yorkshire as well. The signal reaches right across to the highest point of the M62 near junction 22 with the A672, much of Lincolnshire, and as far south as Nottingham on the M1, near the Trowell service station. It also broadcasts Viking FM on 96.9FM (Radio Humberside's old frequency), Galaxy 105 on 105.8FM and BBC DAB National (since 20th April 2006). The Paull transmitter also has Virgin Radio on 1215MW and TalkSPORT on 1053MW. The DAB signals come from the EMAP Digital [Humberside 11B multiplex] from three transmitters at Cave Wold (most powerful, three miles south of High Hunsley), Buckton Barn (Bridlington) and Bevan Flats (Grimsby).

Schedule

The programming starts off with an pan-Yorkshire programme from 5 - 6.30am with [Steve Redgrave], followed by a breakfast programme with [Andy Comfort] until 9am. From 9 until 11.30am, it's [Carl and Gloria]. Blair Jacobs (who also reads some morning bulletins for Look North on Breakfast on BBC1) has the Soapbox programme. Expect hard-nosed Yorkshiremen safeguarding the airwaves from the financial dangers of the EU. [Lara King] is from 1.30 until 4pm from Grimsby. [Richard James] has Drivetime from 4 until 7pm. With lots of rugby league teams in the area with recently promoted Hull City entering the Championship, sport takes up its share of the local airwaves. [Paul Hartley] is the main broadcaster from 7 - 10.30pm. From 10.30pm - 1am midweek, there is [David Reeves]. On Fridays and Saturdays, Martin Kelner's 'Late Night Thing' has been unceremoniously replaced since May 12th 2006, by David Reeves and [Susanne Fraser's Grand Night In]. Alex Hall has been similarly replaced by David Reeves.
