BBC Radio Newcastle is the BBC Local Radio service English metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear. It broadcasts from its studios (known as the 'Pink Palace') on Barrack Road in Newcastle upon Tyne on 95.4 (Pontop Pike), 96 (Chatton, 5 miles south of Belford close to the A1), 103.7 (Newton, 3 miles east of Corbridge close to the A69), 104.4 (Fenham, west Newcastle) FM, 1458 (Wrekenton, Gateshead) MW, DAB and through internet broadcast using Real Player.

The Pontop Pike transmitter broadcasts the strongest signal on 95.4FM. This transmitter, one of the first in the country, provides Tyneside with national radio frequencies, terrestrial television, BBC DAB National and Digital One. The 96FM frequency from Chatton covers most of the populated areas of east Northumberland and the transmitter has national radio frequencies and television channels. The other two FM transmitters are much weaker. The Fenham transmitter, for west Newcastle and Gateshead situated close to the studios on Barrack Road, also broadcasts television, national radio, BBC DAB National, Digital One, the MXR North East 12C multiplex, 100-102 Century FM on 96.2, Metro Radio on 103 and Galaxy 105-106 on 105.6. The Newton transmitter also has television channels, national radio, 100-102 Century FM on 96.4, Metro Radio on 103.2, and Galaxy 105-106 on 105.8. The DAB signal comes mainly from Burnhope (near Consett), and also Fenham (lower power) on the EMAP Digital [Tyne & Wear 11C multiplex].

On weekdays, the station kicks off at 5am with [Gilly Hope]. From 7 - 10am, there is the [Mike Parr] breakfast show. From 10am - 1pm there is [Frank Wappat] who navigates the north east in his BBC Bus. The afternoon show from 1 - 4pm is presented by [Julia Hankin]. Julia's show has some of the biggest celebrities on her show, plus she covers items like health, fitness and entertainment. Her feature "Housework Hits" allows the listener to choose the music. The drivetime show from 4 - 7pm has [Jon Harle] and [Chloe Tilley]. The late night show is presented by [Paddy MacDee] from 10pm - 1am.

Other highlights of the output are [Clarky] and [Wilko] whose manic programme is a great listen. They are on air with a new music programme on Wednesday nights between 7pm and 10pm, and on Saturday afternoons between 12pm and 3pm.
