BI-LO (United States)

-->In the USA, BI-LO was established in 1966 and has its headquarters in Mauldin, South Carolina. It operates stores in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. Ahold owned it from 1977 until 2005, when it was sold to Lone Star Funds. Some older BI-LO stores in less than profitable areas have become Southern Family Markets. C&S Wholesale Grocers is BI-LO's distribution company, due to the fact that BI-LO Holdings (which is the parent of BI-LO supermarkets and Bruno's Supermarkets.) sold off is distribution centers to concentrate on re-doing the older stores and building new ones and investing in newer Information Technology.
Also, BI-LO exists as a separate entity as part of the small Friedman's and Rverside Grocery Store chain with 53 locations in western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh and 1 location in Morgantown, West Virginia.
The company who owns the "BI-LO/Riverside" supermarkets trademark up north is called "The Penn Traffic Co." and Penn Traffic should not be confused with the BI-Lo LLC. of the south due to the fact that they have two different owners but similar names.
