Encyclopedia : B : BA : BAG : Baghdad University
Baghdad University is the largest university in Baghdad, Iraq, established by legislation in 1958 and situated near the Tigris river. Its buildings were designed by an Italian architect.
Following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, hundreds of Iraqi academics were killed, threatened or kidnapped in what appears to be a non-partisan, non-sectarian, systematic attempt to destroy Iraqi academia. Many of the victims are from Baghdad University.
