Barbara Oliver Hagerman

Barbara Oliver Hagerman is a talented Canadian music teacher and performer who will become Prince Edward Island's fortieth Lieutenant-Governor on July 31 2006. She will be the second female in the province's history to hold this position.
Hagerman, who received a degree from Mount Allison University specializing in voice and organ, began her career in music in Charlottetown and Summerside, the former of which is her current place of residence. She had a very distinguished peformance career on the island as a vocal soloist with the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra. She was also the conductor of the Summerside Community Choir for seventeen years, which performed throughout the Maritimes and even at Carnegie Hall under her leadership.
She is an active volunteer as well as a great participant in Canada's music domain.She has volunteered with the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals and the P.E.I. Music Festival Association, and she has also helped seniors and children with special needs.
She is married to Nelson Hagerman, and together they have two children and two grandchildren. Hagerman's mother also still resides in Summerside.
Her appointment to represent Queen Elizabeth II on Prince Edward Island as Lieutenant-Governor was confirmed by the office of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on July 12 2006. She has officially been appointed by Governor General Michaƫlle Jean on the advice of the Prime Minister. Hagerman will be installed as Lieutenant-Governor on July 31.
