Barnsley Central is a Parliamentary constituency in South Yorkshire. Created in 1983, it covers a similar area to that of the former Barnsley constituency. It is considered a safe Labour seat and has been represented since 1987 by Eric Illsley.

Boundaries

Barnsley Central constituency covers most of the town of Barnsley. It borders the constituencies of Barnsley West and Penistone, Barnsley East and Mexborough, and Hemsworth.

Boundary review

Following their review of parliamentary representation in South Yorkshire, the Boundary Commission for England has created a modified seat of Barnsley Central to be fought at the next UK general election.
