Bartow County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of 2000, the population was 76,019. The county's explosive growth is evident with a population of 86,972 according to the 2004 U.S. Census Estimate. The county seat is Cartersville6.
This county is part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.
History
Bartow County was created from the Cherokee lands of the Cherokee County territory in 1832 on December 3rd, and called Cass County until renamed in 1861 on December 6th. The original county seat was at Cassville.Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,218 km² (470 mi²). 1,190 km² (459 mi²) of it is land and 28 km² (11 mi²) of it (2.27%) is water.Adjacent Counties

Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there were 76,019 people, 27,176 households, and 21,034 families residing in the county. The population density was 64/km² (166/mi²). There were 28,751 housing units at an average density of 24/km² (63/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 87.79% White, 8.68% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.62% from other races, and 1.10% from two or more races. 3.32% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 27,176 households out of which 38.20% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.90% were married couples living together, 11.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.60% were non-families. 18.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.14.
In the county the population was spread out with 27.90% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 33.00% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 9.40% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $43,660, and the median income for a family was $49,198. Males had a median income of $35,136 versus $24,906 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,989. About 6.60% of families and 8.60% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.60% of those under age 18 and 12.20% of those age 65 or over.
