The Basel Institute for Immunology was founded in 1969 as a center for research in immunology. The Institute boasts three Nobel Prize winning research scientists, Georges J.F. Köhler, Niels K. Jerne, and Susumu Tonegawa. In 2000, the Basel Institute was transformed into the Roche Center of Medical Genomics.
