Basil White (born October 18, 1968) is an American comedian and writer.

Biography

White was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended high school at Subiaco Abbey and Academy in Subiaco, Arkansas, graduating in 1986. He was a member of the Class of 1990 at the University of Memphis. White moved to Washington, DC in 1991. He received his Master of Arts in Writing from Johns Hopkins University in 1997. That year, he began performing improvisational comedy with ComedySportz and stand-up in local clubs in 1998, eventually branching out into national venues.

In 2001 White had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, documenting his preparation for the surgery and its aftermath on a blog, which is still widely linked and read.

In 2003 White started Standup Comics, a webcomic of his live standup comedy act in comic strip format. Other standup comedians have since followed suit with comic strip versions of material from their acts, but Standup Comics is the first known comic strip dedicated solely to depictions of standup comedy performances.

In 2005, he contributed several jokes to two of Judy Brown's joke collections: Squeaky Clean Comedy and The Comedy Thesaurus. The same year, he released his first CD, "Peeing on Stonehenge."

In 2006 White contributed to two more joke books, Joke Express and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Jokes.
