The Battle of Dallas, also known as New Hope Church or Pumpkinvine Creek, was a battle in the American Civil War. It occurred on May 28 1864, around Dallas, Georgia, between Lt. General William J. Hardee's corps and the Union defense line, held by Maj. General John A. Logan corps of the Army of the Tennessee. Previously on May 24, General Sherman learned that General Johnston was forming a line along the south side of Pumpkin Vine creek. Immediately, Johnston was given notice that either he was to give up his position or there would be a battle.
