Operations Against the Defenses of Charleston
1st Charleston Harbor – Fort Wagner – Grimball's Landing – Fort Wagner, Morris Island – 2nd Fort Sumter – 2nd Charleston Harbor

The First Battle of Fort Wagner was fought on July 11, 1863 between Union and Confederate forces. Three Union brigades were dispatched to attack Confederate positions on Morris Island. The attack failed, but a second attempt would be launched on July 18.
