Battlechargers

Encyclopedia : B : BA : BAT : Battlechargers

Battlechargers was the name of a sub-group of Decepticons in the Transformers Universes.

Transformers: Generation One (1986)

Both members of this group, Runabout and Runamuck, were Decepticons who turned into cars. They both were auto-transforming pull-back toys. They were introduced in the toy line at the same time as the Autobot Throttlebots, and appeared in the same commercial. The Battlechargers appeared briefly in the television series, Marvel and Dreamwave comics, but were mostly forgotten.

The first Runabout formed one half of the Battlecharger duo. His mold was created for Transformers, not a previous toyline like many other early Transformers toys.

Bio:

(From Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye Profile Book)

Runabout has a seemingly endless supply of energy that propels him from one evil deed to the next. He doesn't want to stop moving for even an instant for fear that inactivity will ultimately lead to death. His love/hate fascination with dying is apparent in his criminal tendencies; Autobot security experts have classified him as a "serial killer." The more attractive something is, from a living being to a structure, the more Runabout craves to see it destroyed by his hand. Even off the battlefirld, Runabout is obsessive about seeking out things and mechanoids to destroy. Analysts have surmised that terminating others gives him a feeling of power over death. Whatever the case, one thing is clear: the bigger the explosion that finishes someone or something off, the happier Runabout is.

Runabout has slightly above-average intelligence. He has the ability to transform between modes far faster than the average Transformer, making him highly effective at fast attacks. In vehicle mode, his maximum speed is 185 mph for a range of 550 miles. He carries a powerful particle beam rifle.

Runabout's attention can be distracted from a mission if he sees something he wants to destroy.

Bio

(From Dreamwave's More Than Meets The Eye Profile Book)

Runamuck's only concern is to have fun, and he does. He's always laughing and enjoying himself; the only problem is that Runamuck entertains himself by spreading terror and causing destruction. He cackles gleefully, and he barrels recklessly down the roadway, swatting other cars aside with a flagrant disregard for any rules or safety concerns. The only thing that quiets the maniacally wild Decepticon is a junkyard or other scrap heap; he admires shattered and wrecked carcasses as if they were fine art. His appreciation for a properly destroyed object is part of why Runabout likes the otherwise insane Runamuck; Runabout can always count on Runamuck to appreciate his murderous "work."

Runamuck has slightly above-average strength and intelligence. He is able to transform between modes at a far faster rate than most Transformers. He wields a friction rifle that temporarily increases its target's level of friction; the slightest movement can cause them to burst into flames and begin melting.

His reckless nature is a large handicap in any situation that requires common sense. Additionally, he is terrified of heights.
