Founded in 1905 as a stop on the Canadian Pacific Railway line, it was named after Nicholas Bawlf, who was then president of the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. It currently has a population of 370.
EducationBawlf School is the only school serving the village of Bawlf. High school students are bussed in from the nearby communities of Rosalind and Round Hill.
CultureIn the early 1990s a violent youth subculture emerged from the quiet streets and alleys of this small sleepy albertan village. Disenchanted with the boredom and monotony of living in a rural farming community these youths called themselves 'The Bawlf Boys' and set out to make a name for themselves in the surrounding central Alberta area. They quickly moved to secure and declare as their territory an old abandoned gravel mine outside of town which they called 'The Pits' where social events were organized and from where Saturday night drunken excursions in pickup trucks were launched into the nearest urban center, Camrose, to terrorize any local youth that could be found foolish enough to be walking the streets alone. Bawlf was at one time bigger than Camrose but that changed once the railway extended and people settled in what is now Camrose.GeographyNearby communities include:
