The School System
The Beachwood City public school system serves Beachwood, Ohio. It encompasses Fairmount School of Early Childhood, Bryden School, Hilltop School, Beachwood Middle School, and the Beachwood High School. They run from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, and the current superintendent of the schools is Dr. Richard Markwardt.Achievements & Information
The schools have a gifted program (Horizons) and make accommodations for children with special needs. Solely Beachwood, OH residents are permitted to learn at the schools, however there are private schools as well. The school website is [link]. The Middle School allows the students to get their own laptops with an innovative 1-on-1 laptop policy. The school board is deliberating on whether this policy will continue next year. The teachers give individual attention to the students and attempt to make school an enjoyable experience for everyone. The orchestra and band classes are only available to Hilltop students and up. Hilltop holds an annual spelling bee, but students cannot go on to the regional bee. However, the middle and high schools allow students to do so. The high and middle schools have been awarded Blue Ribbons of Excellence (once again, see [link].) The Middle School has been called an Apple "Success Story" because of its laptop programme.KMO
The 5th and 6th grade Horizons students participate in an academic contest called Knowledge Master Open, which they won on January 25, 2006 (see [link]). In the Knowledge Master Open, students compete with schools around the world via computer.Links
